LEVEL 5- MIDDLE SCHOOL- Ages 11-13
Level 5 Flat Ballet & Contemporary: 55 minute combination class where students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute Ballet & Contemporary technique. In the Contemporary portion of class the dancer is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, emotion, and style. Ballet technique taught at Sherri's Dance Center is a combination of Italian Cecchetti and Russian Vaganova technique. Emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body (epaulement), and the use of arms (port de bras). Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combinations or variations. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment.
Female Dress Guidelines for Flat Ballet & Pointe: leotards and tights of any color. Hair should be secured in a bun, no large jewelry. Ballet flats may be pink or skin color. Ballet skirts are optional
Male Dress Guidlines for Flat Ballet: fitted leggings and a solid color shirt or tank. Ballet shoes should be black.
Level 5 Pointe: Students with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength, and a teacher's recommendation go on to study 'en pointe'. We do not encourage pointe work until the student has accomplished an advanced technical level. Proper development and physical maturity of the student will determine the ability for pointe shoes. In this 55 minute class dancers will develope ankle and foot strength as well as flexibility. Class will work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combinations or variations.

Students will learn a variety of Tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. Exercises will focus on building flexibility of the knees and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, intermediate turns and leaps and improving performance quality while developing complex rhythms and patterns.
Tap & Jazz Combo Dress Guidelines: Dancers may wear leggings, hot shorts, leotards, crop tops. Crop tops are not sports bras and are fitted longer in the torso. Dancers may also wear leotard and tights, but they are not required. Skin color jazz shoes are required for jazz. Skin color slip on or oxford leather tap shoes are required for tap.

Level 5 Hip Hop: Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip Hop dance requires students to have strength & stamina. Therefore, class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as rigorous warm up to help students prepare for more intense movement.
Hip Hop Dress Guidelines: Dancers may wear athletic pants, leggings, hot shorts, leotards, crop tops. Crop tops are not sports bras and are fitted longer in the torso. Dancers may also wear leotard and tights, but they are not required. All black hip hop shoes that are reserved for studio only use are required.

Pom is a type of dance that incorporates typical cheerleading movements with jazz technique. Dancers will work on balance, precision, team synchronization, strength, and flexibility. Because pom combines so many styles of cheer and dance, students will become skilled in body placement, isolations, contractions, leaps, turns and dance combinations.

Acro is a style of dance that focuses on tricks and gymnastic movement popular in dance today. Acro dance will provide more depth and variety of tricks for dancers by focusing on strength and flexibility in a safe environment. Students will work on a variety of skills such as handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings and aeriels. This class will not perform at recital, and is a skills only class.
Acro Dress Guidelines: Dancers are permitted to wear leggings, joggers, or workout pants to class. It is recommended dancers wear leotards, but not required. All dancers must wear attire that they are comfortable doing inversions while wearing. (Handstand holds for example.) No shoes are worn for acro.
