LEVEL 7- High SCHOOL Juniors and seniors- Ages 17-18
Level 6/7 Flat Ballet: 55 minute class where students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute proper Ballet technique. Ballet technique taught at Sherri's Dance Center is a combination of Italian Cecchetti and Russian Vaganova technique. Emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body (epaulement), and the use of arms (port de bras). Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combinations or variations. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment.
Female Dress Guidelines: leotards and tights of any color. Hair should be secured in a bun, no large jewelry. Ballet flats may be pink or skin color. Ballet skirts are optional
Male Dress Guidlines: will wear fitted leggings and a solid color shirt or tank. Ballet shoes should be black.
Level 6/7 Pointe: Students with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength, and a teacher's recommendation go on to study 'en pointe'. We do not encourage pointe work until the student has accomplished an advanced technical level. Proper development and physical maturity of the student will determine the ability for pointe shoes.

Level 6/7 Tap: Tapping instills the use of rhythm and counting and encourages dance style and how to differentiate sounds. Students gain experience in a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. As the dancer progresses, challenging combinations for tap dancers further improve coordination, foot and ankle flexibility, and speed. Tap also enhances the dancer's performance, poise, and personality.
Dress Guidelines: dancers may wear any athletic or dance pants. Crop tops, tanks and tshirts are allowed for tap class. Shoes should be nude oxford or slip on tap shoes. Male dancers will wear black tap shoes.
Level 7 Jazz: Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns.
Dancers may wear leggings, hot shorts, sweatpants, or any athletic type bottoms. Tanks, Tshirts, leotards, and crop tops are all appropriate tops. Crop tops are not sports bras and are fitted longer in the torso. Tights are not required. Tan jazz shoes are required for female dancers, and black jazz shoes for male dancers.
Level 7 Contemporary: Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and ballet. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

Level 7 Hip Hop: Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip Hop dance requires students to have strength & stamina. Therefore, class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as rigorous warm up to help students prepare for more intense movement.

Level 5/6/7 Acro is a style of dance that focuses on tricks and gymnastic movement popular in dance today. Acro dance will provide more depth and variety of tricks for dancers by focusing on strength and flexibility in a safe environment. Students will work on a variety of skills such as handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings and aeriels. This class will not perform at recital, and is a skills only class.
Level 4/5/6/7 Musical Theatre: The 55 minute musical theatre class will focus on learning proper technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Emphasis will also be placed on learning acting and performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling stories.
Music Theatre: Dancers may wear leggings, hot shorts, sweatpants, or any athletic type bottoms. Tanks, Tshirts, leotards, and crop tops are all appropriate tops. Crop tops are not sports bras and are fitted longer in the torso. Tights are not required. Tan jazz shoes are required for female dancers, and black jazz shoes for male dancers.
Level 4/5/6/7 Pom: Pom dance is a high-energy, fast-paced, and visually appealing dance style that emphasizes precise and synchronized arm movements, formations, jumps, and skills. Pom can also incorporate both jazz and hip hop style movements. Jazz-inspired technique includes kicks, turns, leaps, and extensions, while hip hop-inspired techniques include isolations and body movements. This is a 55 minute class, and is great for those wanting to prepare for cheer or middle or high school dance team.
